6:35 p.m. on 5/25/06 ---> R.I.P. Riley Gill. The only best friend I had.
p.s. sorry I haven't responded to any comments or updated lately. School ends in 3 weeks and I really need to study for finals
::edit:: I can't hold it inside anymore. People tell me that talking to someone about it helps, even if its just writing it down. So I'm going to write what happened. You don't have to read it. I just really need to write it down, and I don't have a journal I can write it in.
May 23rd I found out that my best friend's grandfather died. He had cancer, and thats what killed him. My friend, overcome with grief, became really depressed when he died. She loved him, but he died before she got to say goodbye. He had been in the hospital for over a week due to a complication with his lungs. She was attatched to her grandfather and he was her hero. When she found out about his death she decided to get drunk. I found out because she called me the day after confessing that she had gotten wasted. I was angry, but I also knew that was her way of forgetting about everything that happened. I tried to comfort her but I guess it wasn't enough. May 25th, around 5:30 p.m. I called her asking if she was alright. She was in tears the minute I asked her that question, and she was saying things, but I couldn't really understand exactly what she was saying. I only understood fragments like "no" and "I can't do this anymore". I was afraid she was going to do something drastic and was trying to calm her down and talk some sense into her. I knew what she was trying to do, and I started crying too. I was like "Riley, don't do this" and "please don't leave me here". I kept repeating it over and over and was trying to tell her why she shouldn't kill herself. I was still there for her and I would always be there for her. I promised her I would never forget her and that it wasn't worth killing herself. I reminded her of all the fun we had, and told her about the plans we had to go on our roadtrip when we finished highschool. It would be just the two of us and we would travel to New York, and make our way across the nation, all the way to California and back to Wisconsin. We had been saving up money for it, and already had over $1000. I remember her last words to me. She said "This isn't goodbye. I'll see you again, and I'll be waiting for the day we meet. " Then she hung up. At this point I was hysterical. I started screaming and was crying so hard I started coughing. It was also the most inopportune moment for my parents to be gone. I tried calling her house phone, but she obviously left the phone off the hook because I wasn't getting a signal. Her cell phone was off, and I didn't know her dad's phone number. I called 9-1-1, and told them my friend was trying to kill herself. I was waiting anxiously for any news of what happened, and whether Riley was still alive. Around 6:30 Riley's dad called me, and before he even said anything I knew what had happened: Riley had committed suicide.
Riley didn't exactly have life handed to her on a silver platter. Her brother was in jail for drug dealing, and her mom was killed in a car accident in 200o. But she did have a dad who loved her, and a friend who would never even think of being able to be mad at her or leave her. She wasn't a 4.0 student, but she was pretty smart. And she was the kind of person who had patience and tried to stop fights and solve problems.
Today was the wake, and it was open casket. I couldn't look at it. The minute I saw her casket I fell to the floor crying. In honor of her, I wore my blue graduation dress because light blue and lime green were her two favorite colors, and she loved that dress. Tomorrow I'm wearing my Guns N' Roses shirt because her idol guitarist is Slash.
Music was playing in the background while we were looking at all the pictures on the boards, and even though she wasn't a big U2 fan, she loved their song Walk On. That song was playing, and it made me happy. Happy, yet extremely sad. She also loved Kite, and that song was played after the funeral. The actual burial is tomorrow, because her dad wanted all of her friends and family to be there for it. It was what Riley would have wanted. During the funeral, many people said speeches about her, and I was the last to go. I played 100 Years by Five for Fighting on the piano, because she loved it, but she never got to hear me play it on the piano. I never would have imagined that I would be playing that song for her at her funeral, but I hope she got to hear it. No one can replace her, and I will always remember her.
Riley -- I'm sure the view from heaven beats the hell out of mine here

| I'm sure you all know what special day this is.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BONO!!!!
My mom bought a small cake and I wrote Happy Birthday Bono on it :] I made my whole geometry class sing happy birthday to him (yes, even Keaton). 96.5 WKLH is having a U2 song marathon in honor of Bono's birthday (the same one that did the U2 interview) ^___^ Nights with Alice Cooper is also doing it (8 p.m. Wisconsin time) so check to see if a radio station by you is airing it (it's a nationwide thing) so you can hear it. www.nightswithalicecooper.com <<Go there and type in your zip code to see if a radio station by you is getting it.
BEHOLD MY SHRINE!!

Random conversations I had throughout the week:
In geometry: I was writing my name on the top of my paper, and I said the most retarded thing ever. Me: DANG IT! I WROTE MY i BACKWARDS!! *teacher looks at me like i'm mentally ill* I didn't mean to say i, I meant to say s I don't even have an I in my name...
Geography: Mr: Gnewuch (ge-nay-vok): What is the most racist country in the world? Me: TEXAS! Mr. Gnewuch: That's not a country! Me: I heard state not country! Mr. Gnewuch: It's Russia. Gina: I'm Russian Me: Yea, well I'm Ireland Mr. Gnewuch: Ireland?
I had a slip up I swear!
Before school: Melissa: I watered my trampoline Me: Did it grow?

| | Currently Listening Pop By U2 Wake Up Dead Man (Slane Castle version) see related | This week was really shitty. On top of my 10 page Honors English research paper I had to complete, I also have to do a 3 page essay on Africa for geography (which I'm not complaining about because I get to put U2 in it XD)
I will start with thursday because thats the farthest back I can remember. It wasn't such a bad day, but it was the day that followed that pissed me off.
Thursday-we had a sub for geometry and we also had a test that day. When someone would go up to the teacher to ask a question on the test, he would say it really loud and basically give the answer away. So our whole class practically passed the test. He'd also put all the examples on the board so that helped us too because we had to show our work. So throughout the whole test people would go up and ask the teacher questions to give our class the answers. Then during the second block of geo, Joel Vana (Katie Spillius's boyfriend) pretended to be an exchange student from Bankok (...Bankok? ) and couldn't speak English. He spelled his name on the board like this: Jouele Vonana (pronounced Joelle Vonyana) and the teacher believed him! Even though the whole class was cracking up. Then Melissa and I pretended to have trouble on our tests so we had to stay behind after the bell rang. We left around 12:25 and got passes from the sub and walked around the halls until there was about 15 minutes left of english. We hid in the bathroom for a while and went to our lockers and whatnot before we decided to go to English. Mr. Watry is a great teacher, but he talks throughout the whole class and it puts you to sleep because you feel like you are in a lecture hall.
Friday-The day I almost got another saturday. Our regular substitute teacher for geometry was back and everything was going fine until about the last 20 minutes of class. We were working on our assignment, and I was innocently listening to U2 on my ipod when Keaton acted up. He looked at me and said "U2 sucks. They are the worst band and their drummer doesn't know what he's doing." I looked up at him and flipped him off and continued doing my work. Keaton then said "They're like 80 years old aren't they Alyssa? I mean, come on, they suck!" So I looked up at him again and said "Their drummer has been drumming a lot longer than you have Keaton, so you have NOTHING to compare to. They are the greatest band in the world according to Rolling Stone and American Billboard, and also the people. Their tour is one of the top grossing events, and they won all 5 grammys from one CD, including ablum of the year, best group/duet, and even song of the year. So I suggest you shut up."
He kept saying things about U2 and I'd keep telling him to shut up, but he wouldn't. So I finally said "Keaton, I suffered in your arrogant presence for all of grade school and middle school. You have been arrogant through middle school, and are being arrogant through high school. Get over the fact that there are actually people out there who hate your guts including me! And that there are people, like me, who are not afraid to stand up to you. If no one else will stand up to you, then I will! I am sick of you and the way you act as the most self-centered egotistical asshole!" He then got Jake Berg to start harassing me too. I didn't do anything to them, and I never have.
The whole time the teacher was just sitting there watching us. That was pissing me off soo much. Keaton kept on harassing me, so I snapped. I said "Keaton, if you keep this up, I will come over there and punch you!" He obviously wouldn't stop, so I did what I do best when pissed off. Punch the person who pisses me off. Then our teacher said "Alyssa, do you want a saturday for your actions?" I turned to him and said "Mr. Krause, if you give me a saturday, you will be a hypocrite. You have been sitting there watching Keaton do this to me, and do nothing about it. You are letting him walk all over you and the class, and I will not tolerate it any more. Someone has to stand up to him, and it's obviously not you. So give me a saturday, and I will lose any respect, if I had any, for you. You, a teacher, had the audacity to sit there and do nothing to stop a fight you knew was going to happen. So if anyone is responsible for my actions, it is you and Keaton. And if anyone should get a saturday, it should be Keaton." I walked back to my seat (after flipping Keaton off) and waited for the bell to ring. I didn't get a saturday, but I wanted to punch Keaton again.
Call me a horrible person, say I overreacted. But I still stand by my opinion that Keaton had no right to say that whatsoever, and that the teacher should have said or done something to stop the fight. Thats what they are suppose to do. But he failed to do that. Keaton is the hollywood type person who gets what he wants, does what he wants, and complains if something's not done his way.
| This weekend was pretty interestingly boring and plain.
Friday- father daughter dance at this one private club in Milwaukee. My friends Kaiti, Megan and Katelyn went too. It was akward because Kaiti doesn't even talk to me anymore. She didn't even acknowledge me on Monday when we came back to school. We took a bunch of pictures that night, most of them were of Megan and Kaiti. It wasn't as fun as the previous years because we weren't allowed to run around and tape stuff with the video camera. Two years ago we accidentally walked into the Men's Room on level 7. It was pretty funny. An old guy walked out of the swimming area with just a towel on. GROSS! For some reason, that guy comes up in our discussion every year before the party thing.
Saturday- Mo my dad and I went to Guitar Center to check out recording equipment. This summer we are making an official band room, and its gonna be awesome. There's gonna be a mini stage for the drum kit, black lights, strobe lights, and microphones/equipment everywhere. I'm hoping to get Derek and the band over to record some demos, as well as Kathy (my co-writer for lyrics and guitar riffs). We spent about 2 hours just learning about all the equipment, what to use where, how to use it, when not to use it, etc. While in the recording/DJ section, I heard Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me, and then right after that I heard the opening to Even Better Than The Real Thing in the Guitar area. So I quickly ran over to the other room and started walking around singing to the song. We were looking at the 50 million different guitars hanging on the walls, and my Dad and I started talking about the Music Rising Les Paul Guitar for $3,334. He said that if we can get at least $1700 for our Les Paul that we have, and manage to sell one of our amps (probably the fender), we should get about $2000, and then he will buy the Music Rising Guitar (which would then cost about the same price as our original Les Paul). I'm not getting my hopes up, because I'm going to see U2 live, and thats good enough for me.
Sunday- I went to Derek's house to play guitar with him, and my aunt's friend Dave was over too. He is an AMAZING!!!!!! drummer! He can play soo many songs, like Highway to Hell, We're Not Gonna Take it, Enter Sandman, and a bunch of other songs. He's in a band and he played a lot of solos for us. I played along with him on my guitar, and we had soo much fun doing it.
Monday- Nothing happened. I have to start hauling some major ass for my Honors English research paper thats due this friday. I still have to finish it...can you say up all night on thursday? :] At least I'll have my frappachino bars ready.
Tuesday- Today there was a drug bust at our school, and it happened 2nd hour. I was in the study hall room, and I heard a dog start barking madly at the lockers outside of the room in the hall. I wanted to yell out 'BUSTED!!' but I didn't. Everyone knew what was going on, and we all started talking. So the teacher had to close the door so we wouldn't be distracted. How can we be distracted if we are just sitting in there doing nothing? I'd really like to know... In guitar lessons I learned how to apply and control feedback by placing your guitar right close up to the amp. It was cool. I learned The Unforgettable Fire, and used the feedback method for parts of it.
221 Days until the concert! ^ __ ^
